JEFFERSON
The addition, which includes a large kitchen, family room, and garden room, sits in the existing courtyard between the main house and guest house/garage and is to become the new entrance to the house. The design concept was to create a dynamic roof structure to span the gap between the existing structures and to integrate them into a new composition. The design explores qualities in light construction materials-glass and steel-not only to exert the independence of the new design from the old structures but also to enhance its spatial connection with the surrounding gardens. Exterior patios and decks further extend the living areas to the garden and create outdoor links between the addition and existing structures. This work was completed while at another firm.
